Children's Home of Jefferson County is a dynamic multi-faceted organization providing more than 15 residential and community based programs. Although each program has specific goals, all programs work to help clients deal with a variety of life issues.
The House of the Good Shepherd offers more than 100 children the opportunity to live with families in Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Oswego, Oneida, and St. Lawrence counties. Offices in Utica and Watertown, New York, coordinate regular, specialized, therapeutic, and emergency levels of foster care. Additional services include individual, family and group counseling; case management; psychiatric and psychological consultation; and physical health screenings and services.
Provides a variety of services for people with disabilities in an effort to gain independence. Services include individual advocacy, peer counseling, systems advocacy, benefits planning assistance, education and employment support, ADA consultations, housing search assistance, and media resources.
Provides free and confidential prescreening by phone or at various agencies regarding eligibility for SNAP. Assists member programs with providing referrals to SNAP and other government entitlement programs.
The Watertown Urban Mission brings more than 50 member churches together with community-minded organizations, businesses and individuals to help people through difficult times with programs that feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, give shelter to the homeless, visit the imprisoned, give aid to the sick, and more. With generous donor and volunteer support, the Mission helps people rise above their circumstances and in turn, this strengthens our community as a whole
The Northern New York Community Foundation raises, manages and administers an endowment and collection of funds for the benefit of the community. We use our earnings to support a program of college scholarships for area residents and grants to non-profit organizations to improve our communityÕs quality of life.
Alcohol and substance abuse, problem gambling prevention and education, and Information and referral
"The Board and Staff of the Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council of Jefferson County, Inc. are convinced that alcohol, tobacco and other drug use and problem gambling are preventable. In conjunction with New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services the Pivot goals are to: Reduce the prevalence of substance use and abuse and problem gambling in Jefferson County; delay first use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and gambling behavior among youth as long as possible; decrease the negative health, social, and economic consequences and costs associated with substance use and problem gambling; and, prevent, through early identification and brief intervention and referral, the escalation of substance use and gambling behaviors to levels requiring treatment."
